Did you know that Nigeria has the third highest number of female genital mutilation (FGM) victims in the world, with approximately 20 million women and girls affected? These are young girls and women whose voices have been silenced, whose choices were taken away, and who often have no one to fight for them.
FGM is not just a harmful cultural practice—it is a violation of human rights that leaves devastating physical, emotional, and psychological scars. Victims face short-term complications such as severe pain, shock, excessive bleeding, infections, and difficulty passing urine. In the long run, it affects their sexual and reproductive health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life.
What is Female Genital Mutilation?
FGM includes all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. It is a crime against humanity, and it must be condemned. As the world marks International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, we reaffirm our commitment to:
Supporting survivors—physically, emotionally, and psychologically
Protecting vulnerable girls, especially orphaned children, from undergoing this traumatic experience
Advocating for the complete elimination of FGM by 2030
How You Can Help
The fight against FGM requires collective action. You can make a difference today by:
* Donating to support victims’ recovery and empowerment
* Volunteering your time and skills to raise awareness
* Partnering with us to create a safer world for young girls
Every child deserves the right to thrive. A small act of kindness can help secure a brighter, safer future for a girl at risk.
Join us in this fight. Together, we can end FGM.
